THE TRUE FACE OF RETIREMENT
Memorise: "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38).
Read: John 7:37-39
God has so much to give to man, and the spirit man has so much space to be filled by God. The problem however, borders on the willingness and ability to ask. I am intrigued whenever I read the story of the Gadarene demoniac in Mark 5:1-15. Bible scholars say that he had at least 2000 demons. If one man could accommodate 2000 demons, and be able to muster so much energy as to tear steel with bare hands, how much of God's anointing can a man host? If your container is the size of a water pot, that is all you can have. You have to determine what you can take. In John 4:14, Jesus says you can go beyond a pot to having a well. Yet, John 7:37-39 says that a well is not the ultimate. By desire and design, you can move from a well to rivers of water-rivers in the plural. How you started is not the issue. You can start as a cup and end up in rivers. Also, God can give you just one talent but if you effectively utilize it, you will get more in return. Some people are complaining of not having several talents. Stop complaining! How well have you used your only talent? In the parable of the talents, the man who got five talents and effectively traded with them got five more. Each time you utilize your talents adequately, you get more. But each talent you neglect or fail to use can be lost. Are you putting your talent to use?
Do you know that you are the one who can stop or limit what God wants to do in your life? Sometimes, when I see some of our elders retiring, I shake my head because contrary to what they think, it is only the beginning for them. Retirement actually means more time to pray all night since you are not going to the office in the morning. The greatest literary work done by John the Beloved was the Book of Revelation-a revelation he got while banished on the island of Patmos. If God allows me to retire, I would sit at His feet daily and learn from Him, receive revelations and pour these into books for generations unborn. This way, by His grace, I could produce a book every month until He calls me home. Does retirement make you tired? What is your plan for fruitfulness during your retirement?
Prayer Point:
How you plan your retirement shows your understanding. Father, grant all our retirees the grace to complete the assignment you committed into their hands.
