LEARN FROM CHRIST
Memorise: "And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;" (Rev 2:18).
Read: Revelation 2:18-19
When God speaks to you, it is necessary to ascertain His mood. It will help to drive home some lessons you may not readily pick from His Word. God, like us, is an emotional Being. He can be happy, sad, or sorrowful. He can laugh and make merry. Depending on His mood, His voice could be pleasant, reassuring or harsh and angry. Watch out for the tone of the voice you hear! His mood also dictates His visage. For instance, when He is very happy, His eyes are full of love and can be compared to shimmering pools of water. However, when He is very angry, His eyes are like flaming fire and His feet as fiery brass. If you can sense God's mood by His tone, you will know whether He is happy with you or not, and you will know how to respond. Separating God's voice from His mood, may rob you of a very important non-verbal means of communication.
In spite of His angry disposition in Revelation 2:18-29, the Lord could still correctly assess the state of the church in Thyatira and commend them for several things they did well. He mentioned them one by one: good works, love, service, faith, patience and the fact that their latter works were more than the former. Unfortunately, many church leaders today are quite unlike the Lord they claim to be following. In your moment of anger, do you still remember the good things you saw in your spouse or in that worker, minister or subordinate? Can you still praise that erring worker or subordinate when you are very cross with him or her? Leaders are expected to be like the Lord Jesus Christ. This attribute of the Lord reminds us that He is ever in control of His emotions. He is not subjective. He is objective, and yet with a powerful stint of mercy. Also, this scripture reminds us that He will never forget our good works-both seen and unseen. Are you like the Lord? Ask for the grace to be like Him today!
Key Point:
Whenever you hear God's voice, carefully study His mood to know how, when and why you should respond.
