Is God Unrighteous?
Memorise: "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid." (Rom 9:14).
Read: Romans 9:11-14
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" (Jer 29:11). Whether you believe in destiny or not, it exists. In the above scripture, God calls it 'an expected end'. God does not do anything without a purpose and a plan. Anything that has a beginning also has an ending. Everything on earth is designed between "a beginning and an ending". God has an eternal plan. Within this expansive plan, He made a plan for the earth. One way or the other, you were included in that plan or else you would not have been born. Hence, Ephesians 1:3-5 says you were chosen in Christ ever before the foundation of this world was laid.
According to Jeremiah 1:4-5, God not only knew you before He created you, He had taken several crucial decisions involving your destiny before He proceeded to form you in the womb of your mother. Several crucial issues had been settled ever before you were born. You were in God's thoughts before your physical existence. In Romans 9:10-14, it was recorded that ever before the twins, Esau and Jacob, were born, their destinies were determined and God's disposition towards them was also clearly stated. The day their father Isaac pronounced his blessings, he was merely endorsing what had been earlier settled before their birth.
"As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated" (Rom 9:13). Although God had determined our destinies before we were created, we must however be careful not to fall into the error of holding Him responsible for our acts. God was never responsible for what Esau or Jacob did, and He is still not responsible for our actions today. What today's reading means is that God engaged His divine attribute of being all-knowing to determine how Esau and Jacob would relate with Him. Based on this knowledge, He defined His relationship with each of them even before they were born. God knows the end of a thing even before it starts. This is one reason you should consult Him and seek His guidance over every issue of life. Some people have misinterpreted this scripture to mean that God has destined some people to go to hell and others to go to heaven. This is not true. Everyone who comes to earth has equal opportunity at knowing Him. Also true is that anyone who comes to Him will not be cast out. Make the best use of your opportunity today!
